The underwriter's job is to be entirely objective in the loan approval decision. That's not totally possible if there is a personal relationship between the underwriter and the borrower.

It wouldn't save you any time anyway if your loan officer is getting the word to you quickly on any of the underwriter's conditions or objections. If your loan officer is delaying the communication process, talk to his or her boss about speeding things up or assigning your loan to another loan officer. That said, make SURE that your loan officer has the necessary means to contact you at any time or place -- if you don't have a cell phone, get one!

<a href="">Lester</a>

Lenders do not want you talking directly to the Underwriter. They are there to make an objective decision on the loan. The lender wants the most objective review on loans for whether they should be approved or not... Your direct contact will not allow this to happen.

If it's a tough loan, you are going to try to "sell" the underwriter on why they should approve your loan. Do your "selling" to your Loan Officer, and he/she will present your loan package in the best possible light to the underwriter.
